About

Established in 2022, The Downpatrick Band hails from North East Pennsylvania. Their music consists of classic favorites, to new takes on traditional Celtic style. The band was originally formed by Michael Hermes, who brought on Brendan Bordick-Lesavage and William (Bill) Davis. Later, adding Robert (Bob) Balitski and Joe Roche. The name "Downpatrick" comes from a coastal heritage site in County Mayo, Ireland, known for its rugged cliffs and the iconic sea stack Dún Briste. The band's inspiration comes from world renowned artists such as, The Dubliners, Wolfe Tones, The Pogues, The Waterboys, Amble, High Kings, Kingfishr, Dan McCabe and more. Their music and vibrant style are sure to make you want to clap your hands, stomp your feet and order another pint!

Michael

Vocals, Bodhran, Spoons, Harmonica

Born in the scenic Poconos and raised under the sunny skies of South Florida. An accomplished vocalist and songwriter, he spent his younger years captivating audiences at iconic venues, such as Carnegie Hall and Walt Disney World. Today, Michael balances life as a devoted husband, father and chef, all while embracing a deep passion for his Celtic heritage with family roots tracing back to Abbey, in County Galway and Newport, in County Mayo, Ireland, with his family names of Roche, McGrath and Rowen. His music is infused with the rich traditions of the Emerald Isle.

Brendan

Fiddle, Keyboard

A versatile career as a cross-genre musician, educator, and composer has taken Brendan across the Tri-State preforming at highly esteemed venues, such as Carnegie Hall. Brendan has performed with numerous musical projects throughout the region including Boots and Bangs, The New Black Sage Project, The Blarney Boys, and the Jase Matthews Band. Brendan has also had a storied career as a solo musician, even starting his own business, BBL Music Co. Brendan teaches private violin lessons to both children and adults. His lessons are deeply rooted in the Dounis Method. In 2024, he published his first educational book, “Lesavage: Elementary Scale System.”

William (Bill)

Banjo, Mandolin, Guitar, Vocals

Bill Davis is a lifelong professional multi instrumental musician. From Cajun, to British invasion to Celtic folk, he's done it all. Honing his skills in TDPB, Bill graces the the audience with his mandolin, banjo and vocal accompaniments. Bill spent many years with The Chicory House doing bookings and sound for their variety of concert series, which he recorded and released in Ireland as well as the USA.

Robert (Bob)

Concertina, Guitar, Whistle, Vocals

Bob has been entrenched with his passion for the music and culture of the Emerald Isle since the 1980's, when he stumbled onto the Philadelphia Celtic scene. He lends his talents in guitar, concertina, tin whistle and vocals to the band, bringing the sound of the Wild Atlantic Way to life here in the states. In addition to performing with TDPB, he is also a key member of The Blarney Boys (with fiddle player Brendan) and is a seasoned session musician. 

Joe

Guitar, Vocals

A seasoned guitarist and vocalist whose passion for music has shaped an impressive career spanning over thirty years. Joe has not only performed with popular bands across New York and Pennsylvania, but has also owned and operated a successful music store, further cementing his musical roots. Joe's family roots trace back to counties Kerry, Limerick, and Cork in Ireland. Recently, he honored his heritage by visiting the family homestead in Knockafreghane, County Cork. Deeply inspired by renowned Irish musicians, poets, and comedians, Joe frequently listened to groups such as The Dubliners and The Chieftains, who played a significant role in shaping his music career. It is still unsure weather or not Joe and Michael are related, as they share the same family name of Roche.
